OPEN and CLOSE-My first blog post

Just imagine you are giving a speech on a stage in front of 500 people and all the 1000 eyes are looking at you and your about to speak!!

This is where OPEN comes into play:-

The opening of your speech is important because the very first do really matter.

Make sure you grab the attention of the people at the very first sentence.

One of the TED(technology entertainment and design) talkers Comic Maysoon Zayid came onto the stage and began her talk like this:-

"I am not drunk...but the doctor who delivered me was"

when your about to give a speech try to deliver it as some of the following:-

  1. As a dose of Drama (which I love to do)
  2. Ignite curiosity
  3. Show video, images, compelling slides
  4. Tease but don't give it away
and when you are about to end the speech make sure that you CLOSE it well.

because whatever you have said in the speech it should have the summary at the end.

After the end of the speech, the audience should have taken some information from you.

example for how NOT to end a speech:-

"Well, that's my time is gone, so I'll wrap up there."

Never, ever end the speech in this way!!!

Because it tells the audience that you had lot more but didnt plan well.

There few ways how to END/CLOSE a speech with power:-

  1. Camera pull back (i.e., show the bigger picture)
  2. Call to action
  3. Personal commitment
  4. Values and vision
  5. Satisfying encapsulation
  6. Narrative symmetry(i.e., similar)
CONCLUSION:-

"REMEMBER YOU ARE SPEAKER YOUR JOB IS TO GIVE NOT TO TAKE"
